Englisch: packaging
Kaffee, Käse, Gewürze, Getränke, Gebäck, Schrauben oder Zahnpasta, alles ist heute verpackt. Nicht selten sogar doppelt und dreifach. Ca. 7 Mio t Verpackungsmaterial tragen die Bundesbürger jährlich nach Hause. Verpackungen schützen, machen Verderbliches haltbar, erhalten das Füllgewicht und machen Lebensmitteltransport- und lagerfähig. Sie verursachen aber auch Kosten; Herstellung und Entsorgung von Verpackung belasten die Umwelt. Um die Verpackungsflut einzudämmen, hat die Bundesregierung 1991 die Verpackungsverordnung (novelliert am 1998-08-21 ) erlassen. Sie verpflichtet Industrie und Handel zur Rücknahme und Wiederverwendung bzw. Verwertung von Verpackungen.
